My Brand New Job ~ The Strangest Interview In History

So this week I started a brand new job! It's my first ever full time job... and gosh I was PEEING myself over it!

So the story begins when I arrived back in the UK 4 weeks ago after visiting my fiance in the USA. As soon as I got home, I was working as hard as I could to find a job. Seeing as if I wanted to live in my old home (my Mums home) I was going to have to pay some rent to her.

So I was on every job site you can think of! Churning out CV's and cover letters for each role. I applied for 35 jobs in the first week!

I was feeling pretty good about my chances. I thought I had a pretty good CV, I sold my self well and my qualifications were decent. ... but another week went by and I hadn't had a single reply.

As each day passed and my email inbox was empty I could feel that horrible grey cloud forming over me. I really didn't want to be back on Job Seekers Allowance, and I needed the chance to start a dependable career.

But... a week later, I got a surprise.

An email totally out of the blue from an IT Manager who was recruiting for a new role in the company he worked for. He had found my CV online and thought I sounded like the perfect fit.

At first I was a little sceptical... asked a few questions and he explained they wanted someone to help manage their online products through amazon.

It sounded great to me so I found out my smartest suit, my lovely nude heels and a week later I went for my interview.

When I arrived, I went inside and was greeted very nicely, taken into what was like a small board room and waited to be seen. A man and a young woman walked in, and sat down to interview me. They asked me all sorts of questions "why would I fit into the company", "what do I enjoy in my spare time" and of course things about my CV. At first I was stuttering feeling very nervous but... after a few minutes I got into the swing of it!

20 minutes passed, and I thought I was doing pretty well. All of a sudden the young woman asked "Is it ok if we pop out for a minute" and of course I said "sure".

I waited for about 10 minutes... I wasn't sure what to do with myself. Sit down, stand up, pace around. Eventually the man came back in and I down down again with him. He looked at me across the table and I wasn't sure if he was about to offer me the job or tell me I was a waste of time.

"Well... we would actually like to offer you a different role. Its for a CPC Executive because we think you definitely have the potential. If that's ok I will bring in Henry who will chat to you"

After half an hour of nervous buzz my energy was beginning to drain away, and my brain didn't quite compute what he said right away. I was kind of shocked and just smiled and said "Yeah! Sure that sounds great"! In a split second he had gone again I was once more alone.

.... a few seconds passed and all of a sudden.. the penny dropped.

Henry was the name of the companies CEO!!! Before coming to the interview I had read up on the guy and he was worth literally millions of pound. The dude was the real deal! I could feel myself starting to shake. Why did the CEO need to see me? Was he going to interview me TOO!?

I carried on waiting... for about another 10 minutes. Standing up, sitting down.. pacing around. Oh my God I was about the meet the CEO.

Finally he came into the room. He was exactly how you would image a CEO would be. Confident, direct with a sense of urgency about him. He shook my hand firmly and started grilling me straight away. I could feel myself smiling and nodding without really having a clue what was best to say. For the most part I held it together.

I won't go into all the technical questions he asked me, but when he finally after around 30 minutes said "Ok I think that'll do it. Good, good" it was if a wave of relief crashed over me.

Again I waited another 10 minutes in the room. Checking my phone, tapping my pen, doodling on my notepad. The man who was originally interviewing me came in once again.

"Well, we definitely want to offer you the job."
By this time I was so tired and adrenaline pumped I could hardly smile, but I did. I was so pleased I had managed to impress them. Finally, I could leave and get some lunch!
So, after almost 2 hours I went out to where my Mother was waiting for me. After telling her all about the strangest interview in the world.. I burst into tears in the car from emotional tiredness haha! To celebrate my Mum and I had a nice lunch at our local pub.

Now, I knew all I needed to do was train up so I could do the job well.. and the rest would fall into place.

Getting up at 7am was going to be the real challenge! HA!

Stay tuned for my next post all about my first week on the job, and working directly under the CEO!
